Un año se dan a conocer los ganadores del World Press Photo 2014, seguramente uno de los premios más esperados de fotoperiodismo. En esta ocasión el ganador con el World Press Photo del año 2014 ha sido el fotógrafo danés Mads Nissen con esta imagen:

En esta edición número 58 del concurso anual World Press Photo, el jurado ha seleccionado una imagen por el fotógrafo danés Mads Nissen como el World Press Photo del Año 2014. Nissen es un fotógrafo del diario danés Politiken y está representado por Panos Pictures. La imagen muestra a Jon y Alex, una pareja gay, durante un momento íntimo en San Petersburgo, Rusia. La vida para las personas lesbianas, gays, bisexuales o transexuales es cada vez más difícil en Rusia. Las minorías sexuales se enfrentan a la discriminación legal y social, al acoso, e incluso a ataques violentos por parte de grupos religiosos y nacionalistas conservadores. La imagen ganadora es parte de un proyecto más amplio de Nissen llamado “La homofobia en Rusia”, que fue realizado para Scanpix.

Para esta 58ª edición, el jurado tuvo que elegir a los ganadores de entre 97.912 imágenes, procedentes de 5.692 fotógrafos de 131 nacionalidades distintas. Finalmente, los premios han sido repartidos en ocho categorías temáticas distintas a 42 fotógrafos de 17 nacionalidades diferentes (Australia, Bangladesh, Bélgica, China, Dinamarca, Eritrea, Francia, Alemania, Irán, Irlanda, Italia, Polonia, Rusia, Suecia, Turquia, Reino Unido y Estados Unidos).
